Meeting_with_the_Director-General_of_UNESCO1SUPPORT OF UNESCO TO WFUCA AND ITS ACTION PLAN AND ON  GLOBAL ETHICS

The President of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) Mr. George Christophides was received, on Tuesday, 28th of August 2012 by the Director-General of UNESCO Mrs. Irina Bokova in Paris at the Headquarters of UNESCO.

 

Present at the meeting were on behalf of UNESCO the assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information (ADG) Mr. Eric Falt and the Director of the Division of National Commissions and Civil Society Mr. Genc Seiti and on behalf of WFUCA the treasurer of WFUCA Mr. Yuri Borisikhin and the founding member of the world UNESCO Clubs movement Ms. Marialuisa Stringa.

The Director-General of UNESCO welcomed the president of WFUCA and the accompanied persons and invited Mr. Christophides to present the action plan of WFUCA.

The president of WFUCA expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the Director-General of UNESCO for her continued strong support to the civil society partnership and particularly to the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs movement, and confirmed the willingness of all partners of WFUCA to work together for the promotion of the ideals of UNESCO. He further expressed full respect to UNESCO for the support shown to WFUCA since its establishment in 1981. He confirmed WFUCA’s will and determination for changes through the empowerment of WFUCA bearing in mind current global needs and necessities. He further proposed closed and constant cooperation between UNESCO and WFUCA in the light of the present global challenges and world crisis beyond and further the global economic crisis and monetary instability. The president of WFUCA referred to the development of global social networks for the promotion and dissemination of the information and messages of UNESCO and WFUCA to the masses of individuals in civil society worldwide, since their actions are the substances of the human development.

Presenting the action plan of WFUCA for 2011-2015 Mr. Christophides referred to the four-year significant project on Global Ethics in the framework of the participation programme 2012-2014 including the proposal of WFUCA for the establishment of an International Day on Global Ethics. He also made reference to the best practices of UNESCO Clubs annual contest of WFUCA and its contribution to the development of the global network of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations. A detailed list of projects is shown in the attached list. The president of WFUCA concluded by expressing the WFUCA’s commitment to strongly support all actions and initiatives in order to promote global ethical values and the principles of culture of peace throughout the world.

The Director-General of UNESCO congratulated WFUCA and expressed her warm wishes for the success of the action plan of WFUCA. Referring to the Global Ethics project under the participation programme of UNESCO, she expressed her support and readiness to receive feedback from the coming international conference on Global Ethics to be organized in Kazakhstan. She also encouraged all activities mentioned in the action plan of WFUCA as well as the active involvement of young people. She further confirmed the continued support of UNESCO to the World’s UNESCO Clubs Movement.

The president of WFUCA will have further discussions and cooperation with the ADG of the ERI Mr. Eric Falt and the Director of the division of NCS Mr. Genc Seiti in the implementation of the action plan of WFUCA according to the decisions and modalities of the E.B of UNESCO.
