Challenges in Ethics Education: Are Teachers Ready — Responsibilities, Approaches and Effects (Beijing, 13-15 July, 2013)
General Information
1. Background
Today, we are living in a world featured by multi-polarization, economic globalization, informatization and growing cultural diversity. The issue of ethics, in particular ethics education of the youth, has become the focus of most concern in many countries.
In order to explore the effective ways to carry out ethics education in schools and improve the quality of youth ethics education, the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA), the International Bureau of Education (IBE), the European Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (EFUCA), Asian Pacific Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (AFUCA), the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and the Chinese National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations (CNFUCA) will co-organize an Asia-Europe Forum on School Ethics Education in Beijing from 13-15 July 2013. The main theme of the Forum is “Challenges in Ethics Education: Are Teachers Ready?” The forum aims to share ideas, experiences and good practices in regard to teachers’ responsibilities in ethics education, effective teaching approaches and the effects.
Participants invited to the meeting include WFUCA, IBE, EFUCA, AFUCA, CNFUCA and Chinese National Commission for UNESCO related officer and members of the executive board, experts and scholars in related area, and school principals and teachers in different countries. This Forum is comprised of keynote speeches, special topic discussion, dialogues with teachers and students, and field visits. Discussion will focus on educators’ responsibilities, approaches and effects in ethics education.
2. ObjectivesÂÂÂ
The objectives of this Forum include:
lÂÂÂ Establish ethics education communication platform with related organizations, schools and international institutions for education innovations;
lÂÂÂ Share ideas on educators’ responsibilities, effective education approaches, and experiences and good practices in ethics education in different countries;
lÂÂÂ Strengthen cooperation between UNESCO related organizations, schools and international institutions.
3. Theme of the ForumÂÂÂ
With the theme “Challenges in Ethics Education: Are Teachers Ready?”, the forum mainly focuses on the following three aspects:
·Responsibilities: Educators’ duties and functions in ethics education;
·Approaches: Effective approaches of ethics education in school—thematic education, discipline, extracurricular group activities, community service, psychological counseling, ICT publicity campaign etc.;
·Effects: Best practices/cases of school ethics education

6. Visa
To apply for an entry visa to China, please contact the Chinese Embassy (or Consulate General) in your country. You should show the Visa Notification Form which was authorized by the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO when applying for a visa at the Chinese Embassy (or Consulate General).
Please note that your passport must be valid for a period of at least six months, and bear in mind that you may need a visa for the countries through which you transit.

The working language of the forum is English. Simultaneous interpretation between English and Chinese will be provided for all the major sessions during the Forum.
